As I have just discovered it is vital that one checks when domains are due to be renewed. Not doing so can result in down time and that is exactly what happened for my site. Now it is probably an abuse of my position here to use a business site to post the news but I'm doing it anyway. lordmatt.co.uk should be up and running by Monday morning. Thank you for your time. UPDATE The site is now available again. How not to SEO
Just recently it has been big news that selfproclaimed SEO geek John Chow has vanished from the Google search results. Lord Matt carries the story in full but the short version is that John was trying to manipulate the system and the system did not like it. While SEO has it's place it is nowhere near as important as content. When you forget this you forget why you are running a site. A site is for people and not for robots. Get Cash From Domain Names
18/07: Posted by: Globally Local and categorised: General.
For some reason that escapes me people are willing to pay money to have other people put adverts on their domain names. Others are a little wiser and allow others to do it but foolishly allow them a huge cut of the cash. The answer is simple - do it yourself. After all you get great freedom and flexibility when the only person you answer to is yourself. This article looks at the how and why of doing it yourself. 12+ Domain Suggestions for Social MediaOnce more it is time for some good quality domain name suggestions. These suggested names are for social media and networking websites. Anything with a strong Web 2.0 (Web Two Point Oh) edge to it and some social or networking element might find these domain name suggestions quite handy. At the time of publication these suggested dot com domain names were all free as were the "dot net" and "dot org" versions. In fact as far as I know no variation of these addresses have been registered. I used CultOfThe.Com as ever to generate a long list of potential domain names and then culled it down to just those that were available. Then because the list was quite long and had some truly strange suggestions I reduced it to just twelve good strong social media and networking domain name suggestions.
However I could not just let the longer list go and so if you click the read more you will see the full list original list in all it's quirkiness. Short Announcement

12/06: Posted by: Globally Local and categorised: General.
How many back links do I need for any given Google PageRank (TM)?This answer is based on the PageRank estimate formula created by Lord Matt. The number of back links you will need assuming that you have a statistically normal distribution of links with respect to value falls between two boundaries. At some point within the two values (depending on different factors) you should find that a page increases in rank. Please note this does not take "sandbox mode" and site "newness" into consideration but addresses only the issue of back links and page rank. All other things being equal you could expect to "level up" within those ranges.
The lower boundary is created using the formula cited but the upper boundary takes the formula and applies it to zero such that the range n for function f starts at -1 and the result is rounded.
You may copy this post to another section of the World Wide Web provided it remains unaltered and that all links are unchanged, active and indexable. The content of this page is an estimate only and your results might differ. You may not hot link to the images used. Little Known Ways to Monetise A Blog
10/06: Posted by: Globally Local and categorised: General.
It's the thing that we all want to do and it usually starts by putting up some Google AdSense. Making money from a blog is something of a Holy Grail for the modern age yet sadly it is not very well understood by most of people trying to "do it". I am going to debunk the myth that effective monetisation means adverts or sponsored posts. There is a whole other field of monetisation so much more effective that they leave these common methods standing. However they require a longer term view of things and some effective branding first. When your content is stolen
Sooner or later someone will steal your content.
It's not a very nice thing to do but it does happen. Some people steal content because they are lazy, others because they are foolish and greedy but whatever the reason it tells you that you are doing something right. People wish they had content like you do. Do not give up. What you can do, what you should do and what you can do to prevent it are what we are going to be looking at today. |
