There is no doubt that the best returns currently come from investing in a good reseller account with a trusted provider. The control you gain over price and promotions gives you the ability to respond much more flexibly than with a simple affiliate program.

However some reseller programs are not worth a thing while others are simply too hard to use. Yet others demand ongoing money upfront or other suspect demands. In this article I will sketch out the basis for identifying a good reseller package and how to tell if reselling is right for you.

So many people that sell reseller packages (as we do) harp on about the advantages of their particular offering without regard for the possibility that the package might not be right for everyone. Even if the package is not right for you they will still sell it to you.

They have missed the first of the basics about reselling. These same basics were the foundation of our own reseller package.

1. Reselling requires commitment. It is not a fire and forget money spinner it is a tool that can allow you to muster the power of a much bigger company to make a nice profit which can potentially be quite large. If this commitment of time and effort is too much then no reseller package is right for you. Understanding that all profits require effort will help you spot those charlatans that try to sell you get rich schemes where the only winner is the person that started it.

2. You should not need to keep paying money. The yearly renewals aside there should be no reason to keep making payments to the provider. Some rather less ethical outfits require that you provide a "float" that purchases the products while you take direct payment (but without the wholesaler discounts normally associated with this form of trade). Or worse they ask you to ensure there is a balance in you account to open things up.

Somehow you find that they keep having reasons why you need to send them money and all too soon you realize that you are getting poor very quickly.

A good provider should already have everything in place to seamlessly process customer payments and handle other website activities on an unbranded domain. (this is why the securepaynet.net domain is used for the packages we offer).

Aside from the purchase of the right to resell there should be little reason to hand over anymore money. After all the resale provider is still making some profit from your activities so why take you profits too?

3. A good package should be ready to roll. Some reseller packages while processing things for you give you an overly complex template system and leave you to get on with it. While advanced branding is vital the body of the site should already be in place so that you do not use up your first year trying to hire web designers to get a site put up that you can resell through.

Some so-called resellers have been known to create packages so hard to use that 50% or more of their profits comes from the sale of packages that are never used.

4. Providers should have confidence in their products. So much so that they are willing to do the heavy lifting (design, copy and recommended prices) for you. You should look for this because it shows you that the provider knows the product sells and is confident to let you share the market experience. This confidence tells you that the company fully expects your product to almost "walk of the shelves" (to borrow an old marketing phrase).

It also shows you that you provider is not frightened that you will outsell them and is happy to give you every chance to try and do so.

5. Look for guarantees. At the very least there should be some sort of money back guarantee should you change your mind.

Because of our confidence in our package we offer a 30 day money back guarantee. What we offer will not be for everyone and potential resellers need to be able to test the waters nd see if it suits them without penalty.

6. Expect documention. You should have access to support and advice from the outset.

For example our resellers have free access to the Quick Start Marketing Guide, the Reseller Handbook 24/7 support.

You should not be left wondering how to do things or where to find a feature. If the provider is not willing to help you then they are not willing for you to succeed.

7. When the reseller wins everyone wins. A provider that demonstrates this knowledge demonstrates a commitment to helping you do well. This is something vital to look for in a package - that you will be looked after and helped to make those sales.

With our packages you will find that as much work as can be done to help you set up your own affiliate network merchant accounts is already in place along with a top class control panel that gives you the power.

This is done because if you prosper you will continue to resell for us but if you loose money all that will happen is you will give up. It is far better for us that you do very well.

Ideally I'd like to see all my resellers topping UK£25,000 a year (about US$50,000).

If ever you do not see that same level of support and expectation - do not sign with that provider.
